The allegations in the nine-page letter sent by the whistleblower to the Congressional Intelligence Committees are based on hearsay, not the whistleblower’s direct knowledge. However, the specificity of the account contained in the letter gives the allegations enormous credibility. Other persons, named and unnamed by the whistleblower, can either confirm or refute the allegations. Every person who relayed accounts of alleged misconduct by the President or those acting on his instructions need to be interviewed by Congressional investigators immediately.
Moreover, the leadership of the House and Senate should inform the President, in writing, that any retaliation against any person offering information pursuant to an investigation will be considered an impeachable act by the official(s) engaged in retaliation against the whistleblower or other witnesses.
